They Tell You Poem by Laura Maddox

They Tell You

Rating: 5.0

They tell you...
No alcohol No drugs
No roller coasters or hot tubs, be careful not to slip or fall,
take these vitamins, get plenty of rest,
Relax Mother Nature will do the rest.
Then comes the test of endurance and pain, breathing your best
push and strain...out pops a baby
so pink and sweet laid on your breast,
They tell you about feedings,
morning, noon & four times a night,
lack of sleep, postpartum weeps,
beautiful first smiles, giggles and steps...
But they never tell you
about the things fatal and unseen,
that lurk in the dark
to haunt your dreams
making the future uncertain, reality unreal.
they take your breath,
steal your courage,
test your faith,
leave you standing in a river of doubt.
