They say ghosts come to visit when we dream
They step into the mind of those they love
As naturally as the flowers that grow
As a cold hand slides into warm glove
I like to think no pain now touches them
Those folk of air that walked with us in flesh
All burdens set aside, , , all woes laid down
As when death sucked away their living breath
They say ghosts come to visit when we dream
Three nights my father visited my son
As if to say, prepare yourself, beloved,
Your reel of life is very nearly done
I know more ghosts upon the farther shore
Than living people, it's a fact of age
The anchor loosens and the roots float up
I flit between two worlds, to disengage
With both- the pull grows stronger to the dark
No hunger now for fame to leave its mark
