THEY LAUGHED AT A MAN WHO GAVE HIS LIFE TO POETRY

They laughed at a man who gave his life to poetry
They dismissed it as nothing
No money means ‘nothing’
No great public means ‘nothing’-

They laughed at a man who gave his life to poetry
What would he ever know of the real world?
What had he ever done in his life?
Anyone can write lines that no one pays to read or hear-

They laughed at the man who gave his life to poetry
And they laughed even harder
When he cried.
