They And I (At The Millennium) Poem by Yilma Tamiru

They And I (At The Millennium)

Rating: 2.7

It looks like…..
I am waiting
For a miracle to happen
In the middle of the night
Between…….
The mountains of east
And the dark forests of the west
The winds of the north highland and
The green fields of south
From…..
The tears of the old
Crying for the dying young
The laughter of the young
At the walking sticks of the old
Trying to hold up his walk and
Continue to walk as the laughter does
From the rivers of my country
Leaving my people and joining the sea,
And the sea is always taking my river
Of thought and philosophies
The warmth in the high land and
Coldness at the low……….
That I learn the thought in life
From the candle of little light
A bright night in the middle of a forest
From my brother who hatred me
An end less love that lasts forever
From those who said, look at him! Look at him.
Here comes the loan and the poor
The weak and the hope less
The hopeless and the sick
The sick and the dying………….
From those who said, here comes the wild and the back ward
The back ward and the senseless
Let’s tell him his death is coming to take him far from eternity
And take him through a nightmare
That would cause him fear and frustration
From rivers gossip on me, here comes the dirtiest
To turbid our streams of purity and serenity
With his weak self and thought
With his poor thought and selfish ego
With his selfish ego and flesh.......
From those children in my village
Knowing not the reality,
And calling me the fool, throw stones over my head
And said, here comes that fool lets give him
The egg of that little bird from her nest on the big tree
Let him hatch the eggs to get a crocodile
He shall took it and burry it in sand,
Sand from read sea.
And love to got a bird and a Crocodile
They know not the possibilities and
And the other slant of life
From the soul in my heart
Nourishing my knowledge in my mind, but
The knowledge in my mind is
The knowledge of the world and
My soul in my heart is from eternity
From my king who call me slave
A slave on the earth and to eternity
To eternity and beyond that
I shall remain salve no matter what
From the leaders of the people
Run after their own nation
Trying to build new identity other than what they have
I felt laughter at them, for I know they are the fools
The fools of the little world I know
And on their children too, who chuck stones on my head
Learning evils from their fathers
What would I expect? From fugitives of this world
Who come for a moment and go away?
Making all this miseries in life on a way, on a way to death
Let the 2000 come and show me their miracles
For I know the truth they are fool
