The Writing Has Become Poorer Poem by Shalom Freedman

The Writing Has Become Poorer

We try to stay alive
By continuing to do
What we have long done
Even when it now has lost
Its meaning and value.

I am writing now
It is better for my mood and health
Tto write now
Than not to write
But I doubt it is better
For the whole body of my work
And what it might mean to others.

‘In decline in old age
He continued to write
Even though he knew his writing
Was not as good as it had once been.'
