The Words Are Gone My Love Poem by mmemezi khumalo

The Words Are Gone My Love

The words are gone my love
I'll speak no more
The words are gone
I'll love you more tomorrow
But the words are gone
They that see me, will not speak
I’m a fool for love
That deep fountain of sweet words has dried
I'll not speak
They ask me why I love you
But I’ll not speak lest they fall in love with you
They ask me why I cry
But I’ll not speak lest they cry too
They speak not anymore my love
The words are gone
It’s all like a film of a forgotten time
Formless moving smudges on dusty background
They will not speak, the words are gone
My lips are cracked, my tongue is scorched
The words have dried ohh my love
The songs have ceased, the poets are muted, I am dump
They that pass me by will not speak
Their words are gone, they just shake their heads
My heart yearns and searches for yours
The words have dried
For how long shall the lonely heart be without company of yours?
I'll not speak, the words are gone
Beseech me ohh my love, look I am silenced, I am maimed, I am dumb
I'll not speak, but loving you I’ll always
The words are gone my love
