The Woods Ahead Poem by Ethan Lawnd

The Woods Ahead

Lying down at the meadow
The woods ahead bring down a mighty shadow
I feel safe where I am
But be drawn in by the wall I'd be damned
No horizon ahead
The trees keep it hidden and dead
If I am to continue on
I must enter a dark path that is long
Rising to my feet
The forest and I will soon meet
The mouth of the beast is bleak
As I slowly enter i find myself at a peak
The trail inward brings terrible fear
I desire to turn to the rear
The pull of the woods is uncommon
With terrible pain my body presses on

The unknowing path is overpowering
Racing thoughts of me dying
I flee back to the field
The only good shield
I fall down
Spread out on the ground
As I lie back on the meadow
The woods ahead bring down a mighty shadow
