The Watchdogs Of The People Poem by Francis Duggan

The Watchdogs Of The People

Rating: 0.5

I find their guns offensive from their holsters sticking out
And I don't feel any safer when I see them about
Supposed to be the peoples 'Watchdogs' but one must ask where are they
When people are robbed and murdered and that's happening every day? .

For daring to criticize them I'll be seen as one of the damned
But I truly believe from society all firearms ought be banned
For far too many mentally ill people under police gun fire have died
And too few of them for murder or manslaughter have been tried.

When women are raped and assaulted and that's happening every day
The Watchdogs of the people from them seem far away
And when they arrive it's often too late as the offender has long gone
And despite their guns and wide ranging powers serious crime
still living on.

I am not a cop hater as they have never harmed me
But with their rights to bear arms I never could agree
For when the Government issue them with guns to shoot they give the right
And yet the town not any safer for to walk around at night.

They walk around in public and their guns on display
But I would ban all firearms that's if I had my way
For guns are dangerous weapons and they cause death and tears
And the police not winning their war on crime though they've carried guns for years.
