The War Poem by Brittany Helt

The War

The day had come your name was drawn
Called to active duty
No, no I say gone to leave your family
Your wife pregnant or not
You have a job to do for our country
The blood ship came and the war was fought
Finally your gun laid silent you there in your vest
We found out you were coming home but only
To be put to rest.
