The Voices Poem by Lureen Kithen

The Voices

This poem is about my first day at my new school, not about voices in my head.

I hear voices around me
Laughter, Singing, Talking
Many are light hearted
But there is more than that.
I also hear anger
The voices screaming
Sorrow, Jealousy, Resentment
They all cause pain to my heart
But there is still more
Hope, Thoughtfulness, Joy
But my fear of speaking out
It keeps my voice at bay
I just want them to hear
My voice and what it contains
For there is much I long to speak of
Love, Friendship, and Peace
Yet I sit here in silence
My loneliness growing
Until I feel I should cry,
Should scream, Should run away.
But there is one voice
It talks to me and helps me
Then there is another one
And then two more come
Then they watch over me
Guide me, Understand me.
I have grown to love those voices
For they are my best friends.
