The Unending Voyage Of Columbus Poem by Paul Hartal

The Unending Voyage Of Columbus

Columbus still navigates the seas.
The Santa Maria, along with La Pinta
and La Nina hoist their sails now
and they depart from the port of Palos,
and the admiral, anxious and exalted,
watches alertly
as the shores of Andalucia
are vanishing slowly from his sight.

The days trickle by fast.
And a new crossing summons and calls.
And so, again, Columbus departs,
this time from the port of Cadiz
and he watches the Iberian coast
disappearing under an azure sky,
amd the shores of Andalucia
fading slowly in the distance.

Set sail, again, Admiral, set sail,
start this time
from the port of Sanlucar,
be brave, Admiral, and watch
as the shores of Andalucia
are vanishing slowly from your sight.

The years pass by, Columbus
or maybe time stands still
while you keep sailing,
traversing the ocean,
defying unruly tides
and savage storms.

However, you are destined
to set sail again
and to repeat your crossings
because your voyages are endless.

And so now, you leave afresh,
and you hoist your sails
and start a new voyage,
so, go Columbus
and repeat the journey
this time from the port of Cadiz,
say farewell to Spain
and watch the shores of Andalucia
vanishing slowly from your sight.
