The Tooth Fairy Poem by Loyd C Taylor Sr

The Tooth Fairy

One Saturday morning, I stopped by to visit a young family who had been attending our church.
Once invited in, I inquired as to how they had been enjoying the church.
It seemed to me, that to make a good impression, the mother included in her greeting a few biblical terms and familiar church cliches.
She began, 'Praise the Lord! It is so good to see you, pastor! We love the church, and we love how you preach the Bible so clearly! We are so thankful to be in such a wonderful church.
About that time her little girl came bursting into the room, beaming with excitement, holding a dollar bill in her hand.
Looking up at her mom, she happily shouted, 'Look Mommy what the Tooth Fairy brought me! '
The mom, I suppose, quickly reflected on a previous sermon I had delivered about how parents should always be honest with their children about the true meaning of Christmas, and Easter. She may have assumed that she might be in trouble for instructing her children about the fable about the Tooth Fairy. Putting 2 and 2 together, she knew the secret was out! Shyly she looked at me, and then at her daughter, swallowed hard, and started to confess.
But before she could say anything the girl's older brother chimed in and said, 'Silly, don't you know that mommy is the tooth fairy? '
Again, the mother looked at me and then looked at her son in shock. A double whammy! She now found herself in a very embarrassing situation. I am sure in her mind she was trying to think of how to explain the Tooth Fairy and what she had instructed her daughter.
Again, before she could say anything her astonished daughter looked at her mom and asked, 'Mommy are you the Tooth Fairy? '
Embarrassed, the mother red-faced glanced at me, then directly into the eyes of her daughter, and confessed, 'Yes sweetheart, it was me. I am the Tooth Fairy and I put the money under your pillow.'
Without missing a beat, the little girl's eyes lit up as she looked at her mother and asked, 'Wow! Don't you get tired of going to all those children's houses? '
