The Tanker Poem by John Rolland

The Tanker

Having circled all around the Earth
in the blue labyrinth of seas
It enters with giant steps in the natural harbour
And its propellers tame the slowness of the bank.

Now four insects accost it
Catch it to and fro as a sun,
Lilliputians come from the nearby ground
With the intention to immobilize the sky.

Fortunately the sea is quiet and proud
The operation is known but titanic,
One hour of time directs the immense animal.

The monster enters its immovable hold
its wings of salt rest on the friendly stream,
Tug boats go away towards the shade of noon
I can go home now, my thoughts have travelled.
