The Summer Path Poem by Jonathan Drane

The Summer Path

I walked along the sandy path and felt the summer air
The palm trees moaned of distant times away above me there
The palm fronds moved amongst the breeze and spoke a song so free
Of summer air and warming breeze and fairies in the leaves

I looked much closer to their sway and slowly came to see
Tiny people in the leaves and dancing close to me
They said they came from aqua places in the warming time
They came here from another land where talking was in rhyme

They came out from the leaves and walked along the budding line
They swayed along the palming lilt and held their face to mine
I felt their tingle, watched their glitter, held their song so free
A song of longing for the time when once we all could see

I felt the sand along my toes and moved to walk away
The path was calling, they were laughing wanting me to stay
I felt their fingers on my back and ringing in my ears
Felt them move me ‘long the path and over to the sea

They pointed to the crescent line away across the tide
They flew me to it in a second, floating on my side
They whispered songs into my ears as flying I did go
I heard my wonder in the verses singing long and slow

They took me to an island place away across the sea
They showed a picture of a boy who swam so brave and free
Dove to see him and to meet him saw that it was me
Saw the wonder in his eyes and heart amongst the breeze

Back again on sandy path and waving in the breeze
The palm tree calls to face me and I am falling here
The palm tree waves a movement that is calling me to come
I am warming in my heart as it pulls me to the sun

I am in the palm tree lilt and am the palm tree sway
Golden warmth in heart of hearts bathing me in rays
Golden heart in golden chest is open in the mine
I am rising I am falling to the soaring time

Palm tree takes me up above and deep into my eyes
I am crying to the joy song, flying to the sighs
Black is round me warm to touching to the naked star
Looking down on beaching pathway laying down to far
