The Suicide Poem by Kanishk Gupta

The Suicide

Rating: 5.0

Tired of life, and all the rules to abide,
I finally decided, to commit suicide.
I could shoot myself or maybe drown,
Or I could climb up my building and simply jump down.

The first one was expensive,
The second gave me frights.
So I chose the third one,
But forgot that I was scared of heights.

I reached the terrace,
Ready to fall,
But one look down.....
NO! It was too tall!

So, descending down the stairs,
I found a place not too high,
But if anyone did jump from here,
They were sure to die.

Applying Newton's 3rd law of motion,
I pushed the ground back,
I was just soaring like a bird,
When gravity pulled me back.

As I began my journey down,
A million thoughts rushed by,
But the most important one was:
'What if I dont wanna die! ! ! '

I was falling down pretty fast,
It was quite a strong force (F=ma=74x10=740 N) , u see!
And I remembered to hide my face from my teacher below,
.......I hadnt paid my tuition fee.

I was sweating like crazy,
Yet feeling very cold
But as I turned my head to the right,
I saw a sight to behold! ! !

A real beauty, clad fully in red,
Her mean eyes made me wonder,
forgetting my condition, I thought and thought,
Would she give me her number? ? ? ? ?

THUD!

Hi Kanishk, I feel there is a hidden form of sarcasm in your work which actually describes a neurosis whether the poor and woeful and depressed are still wishing for a wonder to happen and the happy hormones come and once again one could find the joy of life. A captivating little piece. Thanks for sharing, Paul Amrod

Thanks Paul. A very interesting and valid interpretation indeed with a small difference. I was hardly 14 when I wrote it, and at that time this poem was for me a sarcastic portrayal of the privileged teenage psyche (using myself and my friends as a reference) where minor discomforts are often seen as tragedies and indulgences are abused as rights. That combined with the uncertainties, hormones and rash impulsive behaviors is what this fall is all about. Once again, thanks for reading Paul.
