The Stroke Of Genius Poem by Keith Gwilliams

The Stroke Of Genius

(Written on seeing an artist at work - Scarborough 6 April 1985)

He was an artist all right.
You could teel that from the moment
He put colour to paper.
A mere glance and a handstroke
And from the flat came fullness
From the dead came life.
Colours that moved and breathed.
Shapes that sang and danced
A weaving of light and dark,
An interplay of shadows.
And out of coloured clay
Came a world of beauty and wonder.
Then, to the corner, this master of line and texture
Applied his identity.
A simple J.C. - nothing more.

There are many artists in Scarborough....Of many varieties including those who use canvas and paint. One of my favourite places by the way especially Cayton Bay. Sid.
