The Spring Is Not Far Away Poem by Nusrat Perveen

The Spring Is Not Far Away

O dream!
will you visit me one night,
when I close my lids at the end of a hectic day.
when the grey sky fills with moonlight,
and the stars all twinkle in the milky way.

Will you take me O dream!
to the valley where the winter has arrived;
with the flakes of snow on the twigs,
and the last leaf that has survived.

And will you take me O dream!
to a little far, towards the east of this cold sand;
where stands the boonyi tree,
amidst the silver island.

And there will you stay O dream!
for I want to sit beneath it,
covered with snow, bare which lay.
For I want to listen some lore,
if to me it wants to say.

But listen, ye O dream!
for could you tell me what it feels?
Does it mourn for the leaves,
which could not breath in the chill;
that with them the snow flakes bring.
Or do they pray, for their souls,
and wait for the following spring?

O dream!
Will you visit me one more night,
when my heart is in pain;
and in your arms, holding me tight,
will you take me to that land again?

To the valley where the spring sun shines,
with the willows and maples and the bloom laden vines;
With the primroses, all yellow, white and red,
across the hill tops that have spread.

But wait for a while O dream!
for I have something to show before we leave.
Behold! to the east, the same boonyi tree,
there it stands, with flattering leaves;
singing coherently in its spree.

And listen O dream!
On the last fall, to me
do you know what it said?
"The winter has arrived to wither my gay,
but I will endure and will not fade;
for I know the spring is not far way! ! "
