The Soul Wants To Live Poem by Shalom Freedman

The Soul Wants To Live

The soul wants to live-
The human being wants to live-
It is not enough to hear all the time
The calculations of despair
Of man's lowly origin and of our endless doom in the distant cosmos-

One wants to live
To be inspired
To know beauty
To feel in the present
That hope is most real
And love will last forever-
That we as we are
Will be blessed

Let the others have the hard news about the human condition-
We want to live before we die
And after it, also.
