The Songbirds Cage Poem by Matthew Holloway

The Songbirds Cage

There's a tragedy there
And a beauty in equal measure
A songbird within it's cage
A wonder to look upon
And listen to it's songs
And still, sill something else
Pines at the senses
The bars that keep it there
Imprison it for our joy
leaves me wondering
If those beautiful songs
The chirps and whistles
And but the notes of a longing
To be free of the cage
Of the eyes and ears
There's a tragedy there
And a beauty in equal measure
