The Song Of Life: 34. Self Realization, When Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

The Song Of Life: 34. Self Realization, When

Rating: 5.0

Thine intellect, now in a perplexed state—
To this or that of doctrinal writ,
In shackles as holy books interprit,
Gets when steady, at rest, standing still,
In a trance, meditating state,
A yogic state realize ye will. || 2.53 ||

Here is the transliteration with the meanings of Sanskrit words:

shruti-vipratipannā te yadā sthāsyati nishchalā |
samādhau achalā buddhih tadā yogam avāpsyasi ||

shruti-: what has been discoursed and then heard for long, scriptures
vipratipannā: perplexed and contrarian
shruti-vipratipannā: perplexed by conflicting views heard
te: of thine
yada: when
sthāsyati: when)stands at rest (beyond doubt)
nishchalā: undistracted; firm, sure footed
samādhau: in deep meditation/trance
achalā: steady
buddhih: higher intellect, wisdom
tadā: then
yogam: yoga, self realization
avāpsyasi:shall attain, reach

Here are two slightly different interpretations:

Perplexed though be your intellect,
Hearing conflicting views and facts,
When it rests steady and undistract,
In a super conscious trance with the Self,
Realize then you shall your true Self.

Swept under many a conflicting view
Of Vedic wisdom, scriptures old and new,
When steady thy mind rests, firm and still,
A yogic state realize ye will.

Beautiful expressions. We have a Geeta group where we regularly read Geeta. Currently reading Isha Upanishad. it seems that more we read of these scriptures the more of the nectat flows from them. Thanks for sharing these full of wisdom shloka with all the words meaning.

It is amazing that even in an alien land you try and remain in touch with your roots, the Sanskrit heritage, which here in the country of origin is being neglected. In my Jewels from Upanishads series, I started with Isha Upanishad, and few verses are included there, in case you feel interested. Thanks.
