The Song In The Night Poem by Rory Hudson

The Song In The Night

The music has ended
but the drunken fool
continues to sing,
lurching violently through the night
under a crazy moon.

He is out of tune
and his words are slurred;
he breathes heavily,
his breath stinking in the night air.

His voice penetrates the darkness
under a sky studded with stars
until at last the canopy of night falls over him
and crushes out his life.
