The Sleepwalker Poem by Ashraf Karayath

The Sleepwalker

I aspired to sing from within
But I had to sing with them

I sought to think beyond
But I had to use their languages

I endeavored to count the countless
But I had to count on the fingers

I yearned to express my story
But I had to say it in their tongue

I craved to live my life
But I already had a way of life

I explored for experiences
But I had well paved paths ahead

I longed to enjoy my days
But my routines were structured with customs

I yearned to fly and float
But they imparted the rules of gravity

I rose to walk but I was told to sleep
I chose myself to be a sleepwalker.
