The Single Woman Poem by Absara Ghiorghis

The Single Woman

She is sophisticated and strong
beautiful, bright and bold.
She can do or say no wrong,
never called submissive or quiet
even when she starts dating.
She will never thing to diet!
Perhaps it is her shiny, mysterious hair.
Devious, despicable, and defying,
she will spew unspoken truths without a care.
Could it be because she works hard
making less money, raising three babies alone
without even a thank you card?
Or could it be that she wants to give up and scream?
On those lonely, hopeless, and dark nights
she will want to cry a puddle or stream.
But she can't, for she is tough wise like an elephant-
nothing can penetrate her invincibility.
She is Wonderwoman and magnificent
Especially to those little chicks in her nest
who want her to feed them and keep them safe
so that they can comfortably rest.
She is beautiful, bright and bold.
She can do or say no wrong.
After all she is a woman,
the woman,
only woman,
of today.
