The Shortest Novel Poem by Paul Hartal

The Shortest Novel

Rating: 5.0

I decided to make a world record and for this end
I have just authored the shortest novel in the world.
Now here are the details:
Mind you, my record breaking novel is much shorter
than Nicolai Gogol's 'The Overcoat',
which is only 57 pages long.
Furthermore, my story is also shorter
than Shirley Jackson's novelette, 'The Lottery',
which comprises merely 32 pages.
My book is even shorter than Sarah Stewart's tale,
'The Library', which offers the reader solely 34 pages.
Also, consider Eric Carle's timeless children's story,
'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. It is only 26 pages long.
Now there is, of course, the record-short Hemingway novel,
'For Sale'--Baby Shoes: Never Used'. This opus contains merely six words, including the title.
However, my world- record- making shortest novel beats
even Hemingway's achievement because it comprises
only four words, including the title: 'Travel Alone in Company'.
The cover page of the book makes it very clear
that this is an unabridged edition!
