The Shadows Of Longing Poem by Neil Graham Marsden

The Shadows Of Longing

Again taken back to the wind and the howling
once more we're returned to the wild.
Alight and alive despite total destruction
Once more to the place we last smiled.
Where tired eyes would then open to sun-painted skies,
That not darkness nor clouds could invade.
Where happiness flowed from a radiant fountain
And the plans for our lives had been made.

What would we then say when the silence had broken
When no more could the distance strike out.
The love in the words then so long in the speaking
Binding oaths that placed us beyond doubt.

Would we both then walk in the shadows of longing
Oblivious to all that we see.
That place where the past and the lifetime between us
Led you slowly but surely to me.
