The Script Poem by Andrus Cassian

The Script

Am I a pawn
a pawn in a game of chess
for someone unseen
or a lowly character
in an ill-written play with no rules
Nothin', nothin'
seems to be going right
as right could ever be rightfully justified
Who's in charge of the script
For once I am the underdog
the underdog who finally won
Obtaining a goal
something I've been chasing
since the day I was born:
popularity, great friends
maybe something a little more
my favorite and only spot
on the corner of Manchester and Jackson
where I sit in patience
meditation, resisting movement
a poor role
a poor role indeed
What happened with my closed
What happened to my character
to find myself awaken in my house
back in my house
on the floor of my room
the tv blazing static with the door closed
and a bizarre message taped to my chest
I've read and read the script
this can't be the part meant for me
to be the underdog turned winner
to succumb to amnesia
and fall back down the ladder
Who wrote this ill-fated masterpiece
it's bolderdash
Who's in charge of this ill-written script
titled
Walk Alone?
