The Sausage Machines

Neat little children march into schools,
Do as you are told and do not break the rules.
If you aren’t too clever we will give you aid
But don’t dare be bright: you’ll be bored I’m afraid,
While you wait for the others to grasp the idea.
You must all be the same, like sausages, I fear.

Don’t ask too many questions, that is not allowed,
Just blend in nicely, be part of the crowd.
Open your books at page twenty-three
And read what it tells of our history.
The truth? That’s irrelevant, be quiet and look,
We were the victors so we wrote the book.

Of course you aren’t allowed to think for yourself,
Just remember how each country gains its wealth.
Forget what you want, these are our lesson plans
You need to know this nonsense to pass your exams.
Neat little sausages march out to earn,
Now is the time when you start to learn.

This is a brilliant portrayal of the education system Irene, and it is the same or worse everywhere around the world. Over here they are called ' little vegemites'
