The Risk Poem by Antonio Giorgio

The Risk

Something within my soul,
Is black like a tree filled with dead birds,
It is ugly and threatens,
Always to destroy that which I hold dear,
You are the light to my soul,
I see you in the darkness reaching out to me,
Your rays fill me with hope,
So now I have taken a great axe to that tree,
And each day I have begun to cut at its roots,
They are thick and deep but one by one,
Little by little they perish,
So I know,
That soon the day will come,
When that rotting tree that took root within me will perish,
And there will no longer be,
Any room for pain or sorrow,
No more tears or sadness,
I will become your rock,
I will be strong enough to carry you always,
All I could dare to dream, you are that and more,
Never in all my wild imaginings could I create one such as you,
And so I know your heart is open and you are afraid,
You fear all that has gone before,
I also have the same fears but I stand in front of you now naked,
I have bared myself to you in the cold light of reason,
I have taken off my armour and have given you one fleeting moment,
To take aim and shoot me down,
But I see that you are also naked and have taken the same risk,
And as you expose yourself to me I see you for the first time,
I see your strengths and your weakness's
And I accept you as you are,
All I ask is that you do the same,
All I ask is that we go forward now and forget the past,
There is no room for petty misunderstandings and tears,
We will both make the effort to be patient and understand one another,
Respect and appreciate each other,
For this life this journey is a precious endeavour,
We get one chance at it as we are
