The Red Rose Poem by John Duffy

The Red Rose

What in more exquisite pleasure
Lies
What beyond all earthy measures or
Sizes

What stands valiantly
Perpetually bare and naked

Before all lost souls
Who's essences pleads and
Cries

Have you been before its
Alabaster ancient altar

Said all you wanted to be
To disappear within its sway
To hold onto its red rose

It always gives away

Or did you oppose
And return all its advice
And cut up its rose with a sharp knife

Did new lies and old emotions
From afar cause you to
Fall

Did a new chance at
A Greek Goddesses new
Redemption

Bring no
Much needed salvation

Did that new prize cause
Old tears of guilt and hidden pain to rise

Or did you embrace that
Beautiful new gift

That red rose and caught all those old tears
And bade them froze

Does the sentence
Love appears when it's needed
Before all who feed it

Create something in you
Something you will never oppose

As you accept a new love and
Embrace its
Red rose
