The Rain Poem by black panther eyes eastick

The Rain

Rating: 5.0

The rain falls gently now
The drought is at its peak
The land is so dry
Even here
In the foothills
The earth has become dust.

The plants and trees
Welcome the arrival
of wet droplets filtering
Down to earth from sky
A blessing for this dry landscape.

It seems as if we are on the brink of change
Yet the resistance still lingers
Communication has become an industry
As our emotions are traded and our needs exploited.
People have become mere predator and prey
As our packs are formed and our bridges severed.

Broken down people in a broken down world
Where there is war raging
Climate change
And injustice all over the planet
My children bicker in the background
As i hurriedly type
And i wonder if there will ever be any peace.
So i flow with my feelings
AS the rain falls
I dance and feel tears gently release from my eyes
I am letting go
As i stretch and move my body.

The rain has stopped now
there is a feeling of restoration
Outside
The birds are talking
And the earth is soaking up the moisture
Like a sponge
Drawing sustenance deep into her viens
Underground streams are flowing
I can feel it.

My daughters sit and watch me type
And chatter around me like cheeky monkeys
Oblivious to my feelings...or are they?
Violet said today that i am dying
And then she went and dressed in black
I hope shes wrong
I wonder
if other poetess mums create in the same way...

When they can
Snatching moments when creativity strikes
And biding
Their
Time.

Sandy, I love the way you begin the poem as a descriptive piece about rain after drought and then shift the focus to politics and finally personal expression - 'broken down people in a broken down world' is superb. Another fine poem. love, Allie xxxx

Snatching moments of creativity is what poetry is all about. You did that quite well with this piece... good write, Sandy! Brian
