The Pastor, Mary & The Congregation Of Online Angels Poem by A Zelda

The Pastor, Mary & The Congregation Of Online Angels

‘Mary’ the pastor says,
‘It’s time you give your life to the Good Lord’

‘I have given my life to the Good Lord, pastor, ’ she says.
Now I’m looking for a person of faith
who’d make me strong in the Lord’

She used to be married,
'til one day she came home from work,
weary as a heavy sponge.

When she sank into the couch
in the sitting room
and called for her husband,
the children told her he was gone.

Gone, just like a joke.

She used to work in a hospital,
then one day while mending her roof,
she took a bad fall off a ladder
and was placed on disability.

Now she lives alone,
children not at home,
a spirit-filled Christian with a big heart,
occupied with yard sales,
singing heartily to the Lord
at her church on Sundays.

She’s by no means helpless,
she tells the pastor.
She lives a full life,
loves to walk and be with her friends
and attend church activities.

All that she yearns for
is someone to cuddle her,
someone honest, kind and caring,
someone big of frame like her,
a teddy bear;
someone that loves animals,

someone assertive,
who loves to have people around him,
someone who can love a woman,
the way a woman deserves,
someone who will take care of her
and make her love the Lord.

The pastor listens
with a moved heart,
wondering if this someone
exists anywhere.

He has a huge congregation,
there's no doubt.
But the entire congregation seemed
busy seeking for 'virtual' relationships.

At last he says:

‘You see, Mary, what I think you
really need is God in your life,
until you get to know
what a relationship is’

‘What, pastor! ’ Mary exclaims.

‘I mean it’ he says.
‘Otherwise, the third fall
you will take,
there will be no standing up'.

'Pastor! ' Mary gasps,
as she fetches for her handbag.
'You don't mean it'.
