The Pain In My Joys Poem by Jaishree Nair

The Pain In My Joys

Rating: 5.0

A rose I am
Pinned to the chest
to keep abreast
of all times..!

To the lovers...
I am a declaration
of their hearts to be united
in their journey of life...!

To the wiseones...
I am a decoration on their coats
to add dignity
with my beauty galore...!

To the graceful swans....
I offer my essence of miracle...
glorifying their beauty
combating time.....

To the tiny tots....
I offer my fragrance
opening the window of colours
to paint their childhood bright...!

To the wedded...
I offer my bouquets
to renew their vows
to strengthen with time...!

To the departed...
I wreath a path
sprinkled with perfume
in their journey to the other world...!

A boon of a lifetime...
forgetting the thorns
pricking my body...
Reminding me again and again
of the pain in my joys...!

An exquisite conception structures this poem, paying tribute to different phases of beauty and always coming back to the image of a rose. It is like an aesthetic pilgrimage. I especially like these lines: /opening the window of colours / to paint their childhood bright...! / Beauty comes at the price of enlarged, tender sympathies, and there will always be pain in that. I give this a 10!

Pain and joy stay side by side! It is an irrefutable fact of life. Like the rose, if we too can take them with equanimity and balance, life becomes a saga of success. This great message is beautifully illustrated through the metaphor of a rose! Enjoyed the poem Jaishree! A 10
