The One That Got Away Poem by Daniel Davis

The One That Got Away

It's getting close to when we first met,
On that cold night that was wet,
And now it's almost a year on,
And you robbed my heart like a con,
I go back to the corner where I first met you,
I know it don't make sense but what else can I do?

Some try to hand me money into a can,
I'm not broke I'm a broken hearted man,
If you wake up one day and start missing me,
Your heart starts to wonder where I could be,
You'll always be the one that got away,
From me each and every day,
I'll be missing you,
What else can I do?

I know it weren't fair but I said I'll wait forever,
Just to give us a chance of being together,
The thing that hurts the most
Was being so close,
And having so much to say,
In watching you walk away,

So I'm waiting for you for what could've been,
I know it might not happen it's left to be seen,
I want to show the words left in my heart that are unspoken,
But being without you means my hearts unwoken,
Going on with you gone still upsets me,

I'll pretend I'm ok how you want it to be,
I still wait at the pub where we first met,
No matter what the weather I remember the wet,
If I have to I'll die waiting if it has to be,
'Cause all I want is you to be with me.
