The Muse Showed Me Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

The Muse Showed Me

And the Muse showed me
Clusters of figures gray
One after the other
As in a queue
And slow they moved
And slow they moved
Their feet they dragged
And I said to the Muse:
‘What be that drags their feet?
My eyes peer; are their feet
Bound? '
Smiled the Muse and said:
‘Do you not see the chains? '
Said I: why those chains?
‘Ah' the Muse sighed
They were to the Earth
Tied and less and less
Their eyes on the heavens
Shone'
