The Miles Poem by Irina Doichinova

The Miles

The miles,
The journey
To an awakening
In the midst of a desert,
Meandering paths
Stir up a forgotten yearning
Leading you where?

Isn’t this the road,
Calling –
Spreading under the rays
Of a questioning sunset
Or sunrise?
The road
Exulting in salutation
The beginning of a crusade
or the quiet completion
Of a long-awaited arrival.

The miles,
The journey
Back home –
Could it be there
beyond the horizon
Where whispers
Of the unknown
Weave a fate –
Whose fate?
Could it be yours?
