The Mark Of Cain Poem by Julia Boon

The Mark Of Cain

Genesis 4: 15
And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.
And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

The burning mark that hath sent me into the dark,
The mark that makes me wander into black lands yonder.
Like chain it grips me tight, and no matter my might or how much I fight, it keeps me within the night.
Plagued by sinful contemplation of my own criminal creation;
Brought down by hateful envy, my blood-filled frenzy…
No solace can I find in anything of any kind,
And so, I am left to search my thirsty mind for the innocence I had once left behind.
Now lest you take pity upon me, and seek to put me out of my misery,
BEWARE
For the Lord hath set a mark upon my hide, and to those that decide to help me shall wish they had have died; for behold, the Lord will take his vengeance sevenfold...
