The Luftwaffe Ww11 Poem by Joyce Hemsley

The Luftwaffe Ww11

The stars were obscured
By the Bombers that night.
People rushed to the shelters
Simply shaking with fright.

Mothers and children
Were forced from their beds
To obey the noise of sirens
Which rang through their heads.

A cold breeze was blowing
As shrapnel fell to the ground.
It seemed like 'forever' until
The 'all-clear' made its sound.

When the air raid was over
Not one building could be seen -
Just one smouldering staircase
Where a homestead had been.

That night was so gloomy
Searchlights reached the sky
In that terrible air raid
When the 'Luftwaffe' droned by.
