The Lioness And The Oryx Poem by Micah Yates

The Lioness And The Oryx

A snuff, a snort, a huff, a growl,
A female lion is on the prowl.

It scans the land with it’s all-seeing eyes,
And soon she sees a sweet surprize.

A young oryx babe, has lost it’s way,
And may become the lioness’s prey.

She stalks it swift, she stalks it quiet,
To much noise will cause a riot.

The babe hasn’t noticed the lion’s quick speed,
And the lion is certain it’s time to feed.

Just ten feet away, but something is wrong,
The oryx cries out with it’s miserable song.

It cries to it’s mom, who has traveled far,
Not sure where it’s mother or siblings are.

The lion stops dead, she’s heard this before,
She calls back to the calf, with a motherly roar.

Soon they unite, predator and prey,
One needing the other, the same either way.

How could this happen, a lion and tot?
It really did, believe it or not.

They slept all day, and they slept all night,
Confusing all with this random seen sight.

And there they stayed for quite a while,
A lion and prey? Or a mother and child?
