'The Lights Tonight Are Pretty' Poem by Janine Alyssa Navarro

'The Lights Tonight Are Pretty'

I took you to the tallest building
confessed how much I loved you.
But all you said were
“The lights tonight are pretty.”

We stood there side by side,
waiting for you to say a word.
It felt like we were on top of the world
with my heart bleeding on the floor.

I turned to you, you still said nothing
I listened to the comfort of the wind.
The lights around us were beautiful
while I watched my fire slowly die.
