The Letter Poem by Lento Maez

The Letter

Rating: 5.0

Her letter came in the mail today
Too scared to open it I started to pray
Dear Lord don’t reject me this day
Ensure that what she has to say
Will blossom like flowers in May
And all of her loving will come my way

The letter was opened with trembling hands
I was preparing to beg, plead and make amends

The parchment was tan and smelled nice
I didn’t open it put it back in the envelope twice
By not reading it was I being wise

At last I slipped the parchment out
Spread it on the table full of doubt
The first sentence made me shout
Crazy words of excitement I did spout
She wrote that she loved me without a doubt
