The Legends Poem by Abednego Oghenechovwiere Omashone

The Legends

Rating: 2.5

Long time ago they were, yet, today
Many seasons ago they were
They speak today
Though gone for long.

The legends never die;
Yes! They that refused to pass unnoticed;
They that leave landmarks behind;
They that made things happen;
Though gone, they live on.

In the closet of my room
I commune with Father Shakespeare;
‘Cause he failed to pass unnoticed,
With Father Marley I chant every day.

Herbert, Osadebe, Saro Wiwa Papa Fella…
Their glories flourish, as if 't were this morn
Though they I do not know while were yet here.
I know them because of the landmarks,

No! I never forget Father Dube!
How can I forget Burning Spear
Or the memories of Culture, Michael…
Elude me
When their spears keep on burning?

The heroes past
The inventors
The men from nature…
They all are the legends.

The works of those form nature
Thrill me most;
The heroes leave me in awe;
With wonders the inventors fill me:
They all Iaud with praise and respect

They are the legends.
Their presence’ were felt
I shall never pass unnoticed
I shall be on the suit;
I shall live on even when I am gone;
Because the legends never die;
They live on.
