The Last Lost Continent Poem by Lora Cooley

The Last Lost Continent

I felt you brush against my arm
Herd your voice, but it wasn't you
And slowly watched you slip away
I was afraid
So I gave chase
Finally found you
And every lover I have ruined
And every life that I have changed
Slammed against the brick
Pouring out onto the pavement
I stirred it in with dirt and spit
They say 'I will take a part of you'
Tore every broken body from the bone
They lay each severed soul
Trying to build a throne for hope to sit
It says 'Today I will bury you in me'
I'll hold you, as you have held me
Hold me in your heart
We'll be set free from fear
We've felt our failures
We're still breathing on
I'll hold you, as you have held me
You hold me in your heart
But I still see him in the gas station parking lot
And I still hear my friend say
Keep smiling in spite of all of the bad and how selfish it was of myself to say sometimes its more than I can take
Like it was a pain I could not shake
Like it could break me and I would slowly
Sink away
It's this sorrow that I make
See I keep falling for the future
Tripping away from my past
And always letting my anguish last like it defines me
Or reminds me I've found comfort in my suffering
Happiness from things I feel
But cannot touch nor see
Put your hand in mine and lay your head on my chest
You are all that I want here
We are all that we have left
We are the lovers the last of our kind
And I swear that we'll be fine
We are lovers
So sure of who we are we keep our hopes up
And I swear we'll live on
I will give your heart a home when everyone and everything has turned and left
I'll weave your name into my chest
Lock your heart next to mine
Doing away with all the rest
We'll be fine
So sin for me the bruised moments you thought would never pass and sing your fears about the future sing each minute you've been frightened
Every hour you've lost sleep
We live amidst a violent storm
We are whats left of what we once were and who we would to be
We are hopeful, hold my hand, I'll lift you up
We are hopeful lovers, thinking if we let our hearts move outward we will never die
