The Incomplete Vow Poem by Summer Sandercox

The Incomplete Vow

Here i am.. Breaking my most serious vow.
A promise that would change a life that once desired to change.
A swear to never go back and rescue you..
But i continue to wonder how my kindness can be strange.

When you're in the darkest of your times..
The first thought is me.
And when i'm in the darkest of my times.. You purposely disappear.
Is it love which made me step on my heart one last time?
Or was i too kind to erase your tear?

You ask me about the pain you caused and you express your regret..
My friend, Regret cannot mend my pain.
Mistakes you didn't pay the price for.. it was me who was caught.
Caught in a glorified love story.. Meant to be vain.

Today has come..
And the past has left once and for all.
And today i am not the lover who came back for a chance.
I just showed up in your life to look at how low you've become..
Looking with a pitiful glance.

My promise was never meant to be fulfilled.
Because i'm me.. Forgiveness will be my way.
I didn't show up to blame you for the dreams you killed.
Instead, My presence showed you how miserable it is to betray.

We're used to you living a life like that.
Full of embellished lies.
Sincerity is what we were seeking.
Rather, we were the ones who were despised.

Unmasked is the face of the devil.
You dwelled in a world of hypocrisy and lies.
Cleverness is your significant trait.
But truth is also known to be wise.

You painted a picture against reality.
Twisted the verity in my mind.
I couldn't see your morality.
Your tricks subtle and intertwined.

After everything experienced, Everything endured.
Here i stand.. Breaking my most serious vow.
Sinking into the painful past to rescue you.
Rescue you from the misery of now.
