The Human Race Poem by don't ever ask

The Human Race

Evolution favoured us,
We are now the superior race,
at least, that's how we call ourselves.
Humans now wander in this earth,
convinced that animals are less,
forgetting that, we all came from the same place.
So we managed to control fire,
not create it,
We tried to understand what's around us,
not invent it.
In archaic times many mistakes were made,
we even slained several from our own race,
some even ate their flesh.
We progressed, or that's what everyone says,
from nomads to sedentary apes,
from cavemen to a civilized race,
from jungles to houses,
from nudity to clothes,
and so on.
As our number grew,
so did our houses,
our language,
our culture.
Our race invaded almost every country of the world,
claiming land to be theirs.
Empires were built,
Innumerable battles were fought,
while even more countless changes occurred.
The need for a divinity was always present,
from praising simple thunder,
to giving it a God's name.
Even in times were faith was thought to be lost,
The new divinities were our own thoughts,
Philosophy, History and Science combined,
To make new gods, explanation is a new faith.
Anyone would think we're a wonderful race,
that survived against all odds,
that suffered disasters and victoriously rose,
that battled diseases,
that is now finally civilized.
yet... are we?
we're nothing but brainless zombies,
drowned in a superficial world,
with minds crammed with worthless information,
with hearts beating in disrepair,
with wonderful dreams of lovely death.
what are we, but simple animals trying to survive?
what are we, but meaningless creatures in this,
our own erratic world?
