The Honeyed Breath of the Endless Poem by Derek Brown

The Honeyed Breath of the Endless

My head light with envy
My heart light with darkness
Whatever I do
I should not mention 'existence'
You would be liable to mock me
For being so lazy

But when you talk of rainbows
And the sinking of mighty ships
It makes me want to jump
Head first into November

Where everything is a living thing
Cordial in Death's company
We have overestimated
The honeyed breath of the endless
Its long ridiculous shadow
