The Gorgeous Maid Poem by Hannington Mumo

The Gorgeous Maid

Though from a strait upbringing
And of character so reserved and shy,
None ever contested what was a verity;
Statira was a gorgeous maid.

Lads of every walk and hue
Upon this all did consent:
Statira was a precious beauty,
Despite her trait so meek and reticent.

Her dress was a simple blue
Or some luring cream when the weather was hot;
Her mouth was harmless if it ever spoke,
And among young and old she was of good report.

None knew the heart of this gorgeous maid
For not an offense against her was ever laid;
None knew her dislikes and delights
If any of these her heart really possessed.

Her feet seemed to walk some eerie rhythm
And her lips ever appeared to murmur a silent hymn;
That was Statira the lass of conjecture,
The gorgeous maid so harmonious with nature.
