The Golden Mind Poem by Efren Petalver Carranza

The Golden Mind

What is so golden when you are old?
Sitting silently in your own world,
For others to think what's in your mind
Each changing time, eyes yet appeared blind

The mountains are green
The flowers in bloom
The snow had faded
Have you seen the rain?

That fell from my eyes
Down to your cheeks
On my fingers' tip

Have you seen the moon?
Peeked through the window
The shadow you asked me who

You spoke that name
Long time ago
Where have you been?

'I love you too! '

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Alzheimer is blind to present but golden from past. Inspired to write this poem based on a question by one of my FB Friends on her timeline, "What's so golden about being old? " This poem took me back to a nursing home where my brother stayed until to his last breath. Though he didn't go through senility, but there, I saw, I heard, and I felt their golden minds.
