The Golden Calf Poem by Qiniso Mogale

The Golden Calf

Jehovah took the Israelites out of Egypt
It was Jehovah who saved them from Pharaoh and his army
But the Israelites became idolaters
Yes, they became idolaters
They replaced Jehovah with a golden calf
They abandoned Jehovah for a golden calf
They rejected Jehovah for a golden calf.

Many people today are like the Israelites
Many have rejected God for idols
Like the Israelites many are idolaters
Their idols are certain objects
Their idols are certain philosophies
Their idols are certain habits
Their idols are certain leaders and musicians
Their idols are certain sports and sports personalities
These have taken first place in their hearts
It is where their loyalty lies
Many have a golden calf.

What's your golden calf?
Are other people your golden calf?
Are possessions your golden calf?
Is money your golden calf?
Is television or your cell phone your golden calf?
Are your children your golden calf?
Is your appetite your golden calf?
Be warned! Your golden calf is leading you to hell!
