The Gods Bring Down The Rains Poem by Thomas R. Ruffin

The Gods Bring Down The Rains

so the gods bring down the rains
and over yet another young child
... there is a cleansing
for were we not once all children?
... as pure as clouds
and weren't we not once all stainless?
... as clean as nothing
then the spirits made of us beggars
... faithless and aimless heretics
and our destinies were undetermined
... though we were not yet defeated
onto the freshly turned earth
... fall the salty tears of our mothers
there we are left to rot
... and dissolve into the ground
so the gods bring down the rains
... and wash away the sorrow
and over yet another young child
... there is a cleaning
the grass grows upon our souls
... and we are thus forgotten
so the gods bring down the rains
... and wash away the pains
