The Girl Poem by branton lansdale

The Girl

I love the girl,
the girl with no wings.
She flies so high above me.
I love the girl,
the girl who so sweetly she sings.
Though she sings not for me.
I love the girl,
the girl who deserves love most.
Even though she won't admit it.
There is only one of her,
and I know I don't deserve
the love she honors upon me.
I accept it without gripe,
or groan or complaint,
because there will never be another.
I love her to the extent
that words can't comprehend
the length at which I would go
to keep her for myself
and let nobody else
ever harm her.
Because that girl
who flies so high,
who sings so sweet,
who I kneel before her feet,
because she loves me.
